Another earthquake strikes! Chile’s earthquake more powerful that Haiti’s

Another earthquake struck this morning at 3:34 am near the town of Talca in Chile. This following a magnitude 7.0 earthquake near the town of Naha, Japan which is 950 miles from Tokyo.
According to the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program there have been 5 earthquakes of a magnitude 5.9  since January 12, 2010 when the magnitude 7.0 struck Haiti.

Around the world in the past 7 days there have been 214 earthquakes according to the United States Geological Survey website .

Hawaii is currently under a tsunami alert. Residents are bracing for a possible impact and the Hawaiian National Guard is on standby. Residents of the island are stocking up on food and water. The island nation of Tonga is evacuating the low lying areas as estimated three feet high waves could impact the island in three hours. According to the Associated Press .

It is possible that the tsunami could reach as far away as New Zealand and Russia. The National Weather Service stated that the tsunami wave could travel at 600 miles an hour.
